Sardegna Nuragica is a project born from the synergy between public institutions, research centers and local actors with the aim of enhancing one of the most extraordinary archaeological heritages of the Mediterranean: the monuments of the Nuragic civilization.
This project is at the center of Sardinia's cultural and territorial development strategies, aiming to unite history, identity, innovation, social and economic development.
The project takes shape within the initiative promoted by the Social Promotion Association "La Sardegna Verso L'Unesco" which, since 2021, has activated an intense partnership work to present in May 2024 the preliminary candidacy for the recognition of Nuragic monuments as a World Heritage Site, a milestone that would strengthen Sardinia's position at an international level.
Almost 30 years after the Unesco recognition of the Nuragic Royal Palace of Barumini.
Starting from the 32 sites of the Nuragic civilization candidates to enter the Unesco heritage, the project aims to involve all the territories and all the communities of the Island in the design and construction of a network of cultural offerings focused on the enhancement of the testimonies of the Nuragic Civilization which represent, not only a unique cultural heritage in the world, but also an extraordinary opportunity to rethink tourism and the attractiveness of Sardinia in a sustainable way.
Sardegna Nuragica, through a participatory approach, aims to involve all 377 Sardinian municipalities, each of which holds a fragment of Nuragic history, thus defining a network that embraces the entire Island.
A true laboratory of social cohesion and innovation.
Sardegna Nuragica is an ambitious path that aims to connect the Nuragic heritage with the territorial, economic and cultural development of all Sardinia.
Co-design, establish and launch a territorial network for the use, management, promotion and protection of the heritage of the Nuragic civilization. A network that develops and provides material and immaterial services in favor of members.
Make Nuragic monuments more accessible, usable and attractive through digital ICT platforms and tools, without compromising their historical and cultural integrity.
Integrate the archaeological heritage into a broader territorial offer that combines tourism, training, entrepreneurship and research. The planned technological platform will be a meeting point for visitors, scholars and industry operators.
Analysis of sites, territories, needs and potential, national and international experiences, opportunities and benefits.
Direct involvement of local actors through meetings, workshops and co-design activities.
Identification and design of network services, creation of digital tools for the management, promotion and use of sites and territories.
Network logo/brand, coordinated image, guidelines for creating visit experiences and exhibition paths, production of audio-visual and multilingual digital content for storytelling strategies.
Design of interventions for skills growth, business development and strengthening of cooperation.
Development of collaborations between institutions, businesses and local communities.
The project is not limited to the management of archaeological heritage, but looks to the future, imagining a constantly evolving system capable of generating new development opportunities.
Sardegna Nuragica is based on the idea that the Nuragic heritage is a collective resource to be enhanced through the direct involvement of all local communities. The participatory process is one of the central aspects of the project and is divided into three main phases:
Between January and February 2025, public meetings were organized in Barumini, Torralba and Cabras. These open events represented an opportunity to share the first results of the analyses carried out, discuss the opportunities and challenges related to the enhancement of the Nuragic heritage and collect needs, opinions and suggestions from citizens, institutions and local operators.

On June 4, 2025, the first Network co-design meeting was held. The meeting was promoted by the Regional Programming Center and by the Councillor for Programming, budget, credit and territorial planning Giuseppe Meloni and saw the participation, in addition to the project Partners, of the regional Culture Department, regional Superintendencies, mayors and managing bodies of the 32 Nuragic monuments involved in the project. The entire morning of work was dedicated to a first discussion on the Network governance model and services for visitors and member businesses.
The co-design activity will continue with a series of restricted technical meetings, the first of which on June 12, 2025, focused in particular on the definition of the Network's technological services.
The final phase, scheduled for December 2025, will consist of a public conference during which the results of the participatory process will be presented, including guidelines for the management and enhancement of heritage and strategies for implementing the cultural network.
To ensure maximum transparency and accessibility, the project includes a series of digital tools, such as online registration forms and this website, which tells the evolution of the process and from which it is possible to download informative materials and reports.
